Umbilical Cord is a three meter long piece composed by clay spheres installed in a desert in southeastern Spain. The work is inspired by the round notion of intimacy in Peter Sloterdijk's work Spheres I. Bubbles. Microspherology and it explores the umbilical cord as a connecting organ that constitutes the deepest and most physical connection to another body that the human is capable of experiencing. The primigeneous material and the placement in an atmosphere of dryness contribute to a sense of reunion with a dead organ and an often forgotten part of our bodies and our lives. The installation was produced with the artist's mother and is a statement of the radical attachment from which our lives arise, embracing life as connection.
